NYS Assembly Graduate Internship and NYS Senate Graduate Fellowship

 

The NYS Internships are PAID internships that are available through competitive application. All MPA students can apply, but only students in the Public Administration Track can earn credit towards their MPA.

NYS Assembly Graduate Internships take place from the first week of January through mid/end of June. The stipend is approximately $15,000. Applications must be postmarked by October 30, 2015, for the 2016 Assembly Session (January - mid-June).

NYS Senate Graduate Fellowships are for the academic year (September through July).

The application deadline is typically in April.

Contact the Public Administration Internship Coordinator (Dr. Suparna Soni) at least two weeks before the due date stated for each opportunity if you are a current student and need her to attest to the benefits of the internship/fellowship for the student's MPA experience. (See application.)

Opportunity to earn credit towards the MPA

MPA students participating in the the NYS Assembly or the NYS Senate Internship/Fellowship can earn up to six graduate credit hours towards the MPA in the Public Administration Track. Students wishing to earn credit towards their MPA must register for the following courses with Dr. Soni:

Three credit hours requested - Public Administration Track:

PAD 588 Public Administration Graduate Internship (3 credit hours)

Six credit hours requested - Public Administration Track:

PAD 588 Public Administration Graduate Internship (3 credit hours) 
PAD 590 Independent Study - NYS Government (3 credit hours)

Students who have earned their MPAs should check the program application requirements to ascertain if they are qualified to participate.
